Luxury home sales in Maine triples due to Covid-19 and climate change

Maine is fast becoming the most sought-after location for luxury homes for its comfortable and low-risk climatic conditions, easy living opportunities, and natural beauty.

Ogunquit, ME – December 14, 2021 – Maine luxury real estate scene is witnessing a rocket high in sales of late. As of December 2021, 173 luxury homes have sold over $2 million dollars, compared with 110 homes in 2020 and 59 in 2019. Among the many factors inspiring the growth in sale of luxury homes in the region, the most dominant ones are the COVID-19 pandemic and spiraling climate change.

“The current pandemic has made life difficult in cities and people are looking for new locations to move in with their families. On top of that, the abnormal climatic conditions created by constant climate change are also compelling people to search for places with better climate conditions. Maine’s natural beauty and amazing coastline make it one of the most sought-after locations for luxury homes for city folks. If we look at the numbers, luxury home sales in Maine have kind of tripled in just 3 years”, stated Jennifer Walker, leading broker and owner of leading Maine-based real estate agency 207 Prime Properties

According to real estate experts in Maine like Jennifer, there are 3 main reasons behind the dramatic rise in sale of luxury homes in Maine- great coastline has led to development of multiple waterfront homes, relatively low risk of climatic catastrophe, and multiple small towns with low density offering open space for easy living. Maine doesn’t suffer from many natural disasters- its winters are long and dark and less chilly and hence more comfortable these days. As a result, residents here are able to spend more time outdoors. On top of that, Maine is blessed with gorgeous natural beauty which makes it a lovely place to settle in.

Speaking on, Jennifer revealed there is good news from the real estate scene for the homeowners in Maine. One on hand, the inventory is limited while on the other, the demand is too high for luxury homes from homebuyers.

“I have 10 buyers looking at every listing that becomes available. If you multiply that with all of the brokers in Maine, that’s a lot of people who want to move here. We need more listings and sellers can make more money than they expect due to the lack of inventory”, explained Jennifer adding that the current situation is true throughout the State, and especially so at the coast.
