Black Lives Are Still Undervalued in America: Thompson Education Consulting (TEC)

New York City, NY, USA – March 3, 2021 – Are white Americans twice as important as black Americans?

This provocative question is not click bait but rather a sad reflection of what the data says. Let’s be clear, white Americans are not twice as important however the structures in America have lent themselves to this unfortunate, inequitable and visceral reality.

When one considers three eye opening facts with respect to employment, education and income, the value (or lack thereof) America places on black citizens is eye opening.

First, the unemployment rate for black Americans is more than double that of their white counterparts, according to an article in the Center for American Progress, as recently as August of 2020. A similar ratio holds true for household income. The median income for Black Americans is just under $40,000 per year where it is almost $70,000 per year for white households per a report by The Pew Research Center.

There are systemic injustices for people of color (especially Black people) on multiple fronts, including economic, educational and legal systems. All of these shortcomings have contributed to the civic unrest and racial justice reckoning that continues into 2021. Why? Because Black lives matter and the time for change is now.

How will change occur? The first step in improvement is recognizing there is a problem in the first place. Clearly there is much work to do as the data shared above demonstrates. Secondly, there will not be any singular quick fix to the systemic problems and inequality black Americans continue to face in the United States, so many agencies and groups will need to get involved.

Thompson Education Consulting (TEC) is one such organization stepping up to the plate, to help make a positive change. TEC’s latest product, I am a Black Woman, Yes I Matter and mobile app (BW!YIM), seeks to close the racial and gender equity gaps and improve sustainable generational wealth building in black communities. TEC accomplishes this through a subscription based service where black women consultants and entrepreneurs have a profile page to advertise their services and expertise and where Fortune 1000 Companies, businesses, organizations, and nonprofits have the ability to access this talent. TEC was founded by Kwamara Thompson, who has always fought for financial empowerment and entrepreneurship, generational wealth building in black communities and educational equity.

To that end, TEC has funded and invested in multiple small businesses owned by black entrepreneurs across the country. The platform TEC is creating will exponentially increase its impact in the U.S. and across the globe.

In addition, TEC has created a YouTube channel that elevates the voices, experiences and stories of back women. TEC strongly believes that the Black community “must control our own narrative and tell our own stories. For too long, we have allowed our oppressors to drive the narrative, create the language, shape the discourse. It must stop now, and we must be proactive to take our stories back.”

With video and social media becoming more and more the way information is consumed by the masses, TEC is focused on building their audience on YouTube.

Other organizations looking to help turn the tide and help close the employment, education and economic gaps facing black Americans should also consider stepping up their social media efforts. Certainly there is still a lot of work left to do in all aspects to help improve the demographics across the board.

Bravo to those like TEC who are stepping up to do what they can to make things better.
